Why is Proving performed?

The need for proving arises because operating conditions differ significantly from the conditions under which the meter is calibrated.

Why Prove

– Establish reference point under operating conditions(initial installation)
– Accounts for changes in meter accuracy
– Verify repeatability / linearity of meter
– Contractual requirement for custody transfer

The most important reasons to do proving are as follows

  1. Guarantee that the measurement is completely accurate since the values of these meters are used for accounting, sales, taxes, etc.
  2. Guarantee that the equipment is operating in its optimal conditions, again changes can have economic impacts.
  3. Verify that all the components in the system ar working so that the confidence of end users, government (Tax) and buyers/sellers all are comfortable that the system is working correctly.
