No, butterfly valve cannot be used for flow control, throttling or modulating. Butterfly valve belongs to the rotational type of valves which are used for on/off application. The flow profile passing through the butterfly valve shows that over the angle of 45% opening of valve, causes uncontrolled condition of flow, whereas the expected percentages is 63.23% for satisfactory flow control. Besides, butterfly valve has a big torque value at opening and this is also makes it impossible for the use of butterfly valve for throttling
