Control system questions

1 What is compensation ?
Ans. Addition of zeroes & poles to meet desired transient and steady state specifications is called compensation.

  • It involves making minute changes in system by adding a low pass filter for lagging system & high pass filter for leading system.

LPF & HPF consists of an RC circuit whose value depends on values of poles & zeroes.

2 Types of compensation techniques?
Ans. Types include series compensation, parallel compensation, input/output compensation & feedback compensation. Most widely used is series compensation.

Note: compensation techniques are mentioned with respect to transfer function of plant.

3 What are methods involved in compensating network?
Ans. Methods include root locus method and bode plot method.
