LM35 Temperature Sensor Principle

  • LM35 is one of the most widely used temperature sensor.

  • Operates at 5V , it draws less current ( 60 µA).

  • It is more accurate & linear than thermistor.

  • It produces 10mV per °C.

  • It doesn’t require any external calibrator & operates within -55°C to 150°C.

Operating principle:
Operating principle is similar to that of RTD, where resistance of material changes with temperature .

Advantages:

  • No calibration required, directly calibrated in terms of °C.

  • Low power consumption.

  • Low cost.

  • Easy interface with µ-contoller/processor.

  • Good accuracy and good resolution.

  • Linear.

Disadvantages:

  • Low operating temperature.

Applications:

  • As sensor in room temperature controller.

  • Machine temperature sensors.

  • Battery temperature monitoring.

  • Electronic board temperature measurement.
