Lower explosive limit (LEL) is the minimum concentration of a flammable gas or vapor that will propagate flame when exposed to a source of ignition. A mixture below this concentration level is considered too “lean” to burn. Term “Lower Flammable Limit” (LFL) sometime is used in lieu of LEL.
