Regarding Hardwired I/Os & Serial I/Os

My question is on what basis the EPC or end-user decides that particular I/Os to be considered under hardwired & the others under serial I/Os in the Process automation system while providing the IO list to the DCS/ Control system vendor?

What parameters are considered while segregating the I/Os?

In the Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Distributed Control Systems (DCS), the selection between Hardwired I/O and Serial I/O becomes especially critical due to the real-time nature of these systems and the associated complexities of industrial processes.

The segregation of I/O (Input/Output) into hardwired or serial categories is an essential step in designing a Process Automation System, particularly when specifying requirements for a Distributed Control System (DCS) or any other control system.

Several factors influence the decision on how to categorize these I/Os, and it often requires input from both EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) companies and the end-users.
