What is Condition Monitoring System (CMS)?

The first level of machinery management is monitoring and protection. The condition monitoring System provides this level of machinery management.

Monitoring is accomplished by using various transducers and sensors, which translate measurable machine and process condition parameters into electrical signals. These signals are accessed and displayed by the condition monitoring System modules.

CMS can also provide protection by comparing machine and process conditions to predetermined alarm levels. A report of conditions that may be in excess of the alarm levels can be used to change the state of the machine to a safe operating mode or even tripping the machine.

Relay channels in CMS are not hard wired in the rack but operate based on logic statements. These statements are logical combinations of Alarm Drive Signals created by setpoints being violated. Alarm drive signal configuration and relay logic must be considered carefully in light of monitoring relay changes and relay operation.

The condition monitoring system can trigger a relay state change as a result of virtually any combination of machine alarm conditions.

For example, the Relay Association Dialog on above figue shows that the relay logic for channel 1 has been configured such that the relay will change state if all four channels have Danger alarms.

Other combinations of process data, such as temperature or pressure, can also be involved along with vibration conditions to provide machinery protection without human intervention.

Condition Monitoring System Features (CMS)

Condition/machine monitoring System assists in the analysis level and protection of machinery management by processing transducer signals to provide variables such as 1X amplitude, 1X phase, 2X amplitude, 2X phase, Not 1X amplitude, and Smax.

This additional data beyond direct vibration and gap adds to the protection and analysis capabilities and can be viewed in various formats including the LCD display, VGA display, Integrated display, and othe advance display System.
